BROADMEADOWS BASKETBALL COVID-19 UPDATE
ADVICE NO. 2020/4 (12 May 2020)
To all our valued Broadmeadows Basketball (BBA) partners and supporters, including our Junior Domestic Clubs, Senior Domestic teams, Junior Representative teams, Senior Representative teams, Programs participants, Referees and Staff:
Firstly, we hope you are all safe and healthy. This has no doubt been a challenging time for us all, however the sacrifices people have made means that we are beginning to see some light at the end of this tunnel, and we can start our return to basketball.
The Victorian Government announced yesterday some gradual easing of restrictions for Victorians that will come into effect on Tuesday 12 May from 11:59pm. The key points relating to basketball being;
Return to Sport – Outdoor Activity
The key changes announced means the following will be permitted:
- outdoor gatherings being permitted with up to 10 people
- indoor gatherings at home are permitted, with 5 visitors able to visit the normal residents of a household
- the ability to leave the house for exercise will be expanded to include outdoor recreational activities.
These activities can occur in groups of up to 10 people outside, but the requirements on physical distancing remain. While this is a small step, it does allow some basketball activity to recommence.
DOMESTIC AND REPRESENTATIVE OUTDOOR TEAM ACTIVITIES
Teams now have the opportunity to gather outdoors in small groups (up to 10) and participate in non-contact conditioning or skill activities. Social distancing must still occur and hygiene protocols adhered to.
Further information and guidelines will be sent to domestic clubs and representative coaches.
JUNIOR & SENIOR DOMESTIC COMPETITION
The commencement of the upcoming Junior and Senior Domestic basketball seasons continue to be postponed. This will be reviewed on June 1 after State Government and Basketball Victoria updates.
With the likely limit on indoor gatherings in the early stages of our return we will explore options such as 3X3 competitions and excluding spectators to allow us to get back on the court as soon as possible. More information on potential options will be communicated to domestic clubs shortly.
JUNIOR & SENIOR BRONCOS (VJBL & BigV)
Basketball Victoria have advised that VJBL and BigV competitions continue to be postponed, with an update to be provided on May 31. While VJBL may be able to get back up and running somewhat quickly, BigV may need to run much later into the year than normal and BV are considering all options and formats for senior elite leagues in 2020.
Once COVID restrictions permit, we will communicate indoor training options for teams.
PROGRAMS
Programs such as Aussie Hoops, Toddler Hoops, High Performance, Inclusion and Casual Shooting remain suspended until a time our venue re-opens and indoor gatherings can take place.
Again, thank you for your cooperation, understanding and patience. We look forward to providing another update with further steps forward on June 1.
Stay safe!
Regards,
Peter Jackson
