BBA Covid-19 Update - 15.4.20

IMPORTANT PROGRESS ADVICE RE IMPACT OF COVID 19 ON BASKETBALL PROGRAMS

ADVICE NO. 2020/3 (15 April 2020)

To all our valued Broadmeadows Basketball (BBA) partners and supporters, including our Junior Domestic Clubs, Senior Domestic teams, Junior Representative teams, Senior Representative teams, Programs participants, Referees and Staff:

As we continue to progress through this pandemic, we provide the following updates on various programs and competitions based on the advice received from Basketball Victoria on April 14, 2020.

JUNIOR DOMESTIC COMPETITION

Basketball Victoria has placed a suspension on domestic competition until Sunday 31 May at the earliest. Therefore the earliest possible date we anticipate to return is Saturday 6 June (Queens Birthday Weekend).

At this stage we still intend to run a modified Winter season. With the return date and the conditions under which games can be conducted unclear we cannot provide a detailed plan, however we will consider options such as a shortened regular season and finals series, round robin competition (no finals) and postponing the start of the Summer season to allow more time to complete the Winter season.

We encourage clubs to continue taking registrations and forming teams for when competition can resume. We will give clubs a minimum of 14 days’ notice of the new competition season starting to allow time for members to complete registrations.

Basketball Victoria has advised that their 365-day registration fee will not be activated until competitions commence and the expiry date will be pushed back to reflect this. The BBA will also pro rata any association registration fees paid to reflect a shortened Winter season. Individuals can continue to register as normal as the suspension of games during this time will not result in any financial disadvantage for members.

We will give teams a minimum of 7 days’ notice of the new competition season starting.

JUNIOR BRONCOS (VJBL)

Basketball Victoria have advised that VJBL competition will be postponed until May 31, with an update to be provided on May 11. As circumstances permit and a more definitive date is provided by VJBL we will communicate return to training options for teams. We anticipate that we will be provided at least 2 week’s notice from VJBL of competition resuming to allow us time to organise for teams to train before playing.

SENIOR REPRESENTATIVE TRAINING

Basketball Victoria have advised that BigV competition will be postponed until May 31, with an update to be provided on May 11.

Once a return to competition date has been announced we will communicate the potential competition structure and fixture to players, coaches, staff and supporters.

We hope this information can assist in providing some scope for when we can expect to return to basketball activities. We will continue to update our members as we receive more information from Basketball Victoria and the State Government.
