BBA Covid Programs and Competitions Update

To all our valued Broadmeadows Basketball Association (BBA) partners and supporters, including our Junior Domestic Clubs, Senior Domestic teams, Junior Representative teams, Senior Representative teams, Program participants, Referees and Staff:

With restrictions due to be partially lifted from 11:59pm tonight, please note that we will return to the Basketball Victoria ‘Orange-50’ status in Metropolitan Melbourne as of Friday 18 June.

This does permit indoor community sport, however with a total venue capacity of 50 people (not per court) it does make competition and many programs difficult to resume immediately. We anticipate that next Thursday this will be increased to 300 a venue and we will have more ability to return to competitions and programs.

Domestic Competitions

Under current restrictions, domestic competitions cannot practically resume. The venue limit of 50 people includes players, coaches, referees, scorers and BBA staff. Only one game per venue could be conducted at a time, eliminating use of 6 of our competition courts.

Is it hoped that an increase of capacity to 300 (in line with regional Victoria) next week would allow us to resume competition. However, this would likely be limited to players, coaches and 1 parent/guardian per player only.

Junior Domestic- Games on Saturday 19 June will be cancelled. Fixtures will shortly be released for Saturday 26 June. Senior Domestic- Games for Sunday 20th, Monday 21th and Wednesday 23th June will be cancelled. We aim to resume Sunday 27 June as fixtured.

We will provide an update on Thursday 24 June in regards to resumption of indoor competition.

Programs

All programs including Aussie Hoops, Toddler Hoops, Sporting Schools and Inclusion programs continue to be postponed due to capacity limits and need for parental supervision. We plan to resume programs in Week 1 of Term 3, commencing Monday 12 July. More information will be emailed to participants shortly.

Training

All VJBL and BigV training is permitted to commence, with restrictions. Coaches will be emailed with schedules and other information shortly.

VJBL Competition

Games for Friday 18 June have been cancelled. We await further advice from Basketball Victoria on games scheduled for Friday 25 June, however the expectation is these will go ahead if capacity limits are raised to 300.
