MEDIA RELEASE – HUME CITY BRONCOS BASKETBALL
EARLY SIGNINGS SIGNAL LADY BRONCOS INTENTIONS
Following their second round finals exit this year from the Big V Championship Division competition, the Hume City Lady Broncos have secured important early signings in their quest to go deeper into the playoffs in 2020.
Gun guard and Big V All Star five member Nicole Zammit has re-committed, with her back court team-mate Sophie Byrnes also signing on. Dynamic scorer Bianca Babic will also return, and the Club is excited to announce that the leading scorer of the 2019 competition, import Rachel Bell, will wear the Broncos colours next year.
“The coaching staff’s review of our performance highlighted the need for our team to play a quicker, more agile style of game” said Glen Milner, Director of Womens Coaching at Hume City.
“With that in mind, it was a priority for us to re-sign arguably the best Australian player in the competition in Nicole, who has given our Club terrific service and memorable times and who enjoyed her best season to date. The objective of pushing pace led us to identify Rachel as a great fit for the style of play we want to commit to. Rachel, as a 2018 graduate of Vanderbilt and demonstrated performer in our league gives us additional ball-handling, scoring punch and on-court smarts, as well as versatility in our match ups and defensive looks. When we add in an ever-improving Sophie and the all-round capabilities of Bianca, the roster is taking promising shape.”
The Club is continuing to assess prospects for its Championship Division and VYCW teams, with Head Coach Dee Butler and VYCW Coach Tim Devlin planning to hold open try-outs in the coming weeks to finalise the content of the Hume City womens program, in terms of the talent currently available from its existing lists and graduating juniors as well as recruiting for capability gaps in those lists. Further announcements will follow as those rosters are finalised.
