Damon Lowery returns to Hume City to lead Championship Women in 2027

The Hume City Broncos are thrilled to announce the appointment of Damon Lowery as our Championship Women Head Coach for the 2027 Big V season.
An Olympic coach, Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning coach and NBL champion, Lowery brings extensive experience at the highest levels of Australian basketball and a personal connection to the Broncos.
His appointment marks a homecoming, having previously represented Hume City as a player and assistant coach in 2012. He now returns to lead our women’s program into an exciting new chapter.
Lowery most recently guided Australia’s women’s 3x3 team, the Gangurrus, to gold at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The achievement followed his leadership of the team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, adding Commonwealth Games success to an international coaching résumé that includes FIBA 3x3 World Cup campaigns.
As a player, Lowery was part of the Wollongong Hawks’ historic 2001 NBL championship-winning team. His experience competing on the biggest stage has since translated into a coaching career spanning national teams, senior basketball and junior development.
Alongside his international appointments, Lowery has held Director of Coaching roles at Dandenong and Whittlesea and coached across several Big V programs. Now, a familiar voice through his NBL and WNBL broadcasting work, from his work on Overtime to his commentary over the weekend at various venues across the country he brings a passion for the game and a commitment to developing both players and coaches.
Broadmeadows Basketball Association General Manager Morgan Hughes said the appointment was a significant moment for the Broncos.
“To have someone of Damon’s calibre and stature in Australian basketball leading our Championship Women is a monumental step for our program,” Hughes said.
“Damon brings an incredible depth of experience, from winning an NBL championship as a player to coaching on the Olympic stage and leading the Gangurrus to Commonwealth Games gold. Having that knowledge and experience here at Hume City is an exciting opportunity for our players and our wider basketball community. As 2026 showed, we have a very young roster with an exceptional group of Youth Women underpinning our Championship Women, and with Damon's ability to develop players this role could not fit anyone better.
“His appointment builds on the fantastic work Brooke Davenport has done over the past two years to strengthen the foundations of our women’s program. We’re incredibly grateful for Brooke’s contribution and look forward to continuing that progress with Damon.
“Everyone involved in the program, along with our members and supporters, should be excited about what 2027 has in store.”
The Broncos look forward to welcoming Damon back to Hume City as preparations begin for the 2027 Big V season.
