GRAY TAKES THE REINS AT THE BRONCOS

With the weekend announcement from Matt Foster that he is stepping away from the

Hume City Broncos Head Coaching role after seven successful years at the helm,

the Club has moved swiftly to endorse Simon Gray as Matt’s successor.

Acknowledging Coach Foster’s outstanding contribution to Hume City’s Mens

program, General Manager Glen Milner said “When Matt first arrived, the program

was in need of direction. Over his tenure he turned the men’s team around, guiding

them to the finals in every season and building a sustainable culture around winning

with good people and good players. Under his leadership, the Broncos became

known not just for results on the court, but also for the values and standards he

instilled off it. We wish Matt all the best for the future and we thank his wife Dara and

the family for allowing him to commit to the time consuming demands of a Head

Coaching role over such a lengthy period.”

Following his acceptance of the Championship Division Head Coach appointment,

Simon Gray said: “I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue the legacy that Matt

has established here at the Broncos. I’m looking forward to working with Steve, Tane

and Jay to further develop our young group, maintaining the strong connection with

our Youth League and junior programs and providing an accessible and seamless

pathway for our young people to journey through.”

As Hume City’s Youth League mentor with back to back titles in 2023-24, Coach

Gray led the team to qualify for the Club’s inclusion in the Victorian Youth

Championship Division competition in 2025.

“With the premiership successes that Simon has achieved, his familiarity with the up

and coming talent from our junior representative groups and his astute basketball

disposition, our Committee of Management had no hesitation in supporting Simon’s

appointment to the role” said Mr Milner.

"We are confident that the mens program will continue to flourish under Simon’s stewardship and we look forward to another strong performance by the Broncos in 2026.”

To finalise the coaching line up for next season, the Club will advertise the now

vacant Victorian Youth Championships team coaching role.
