Tribunal Member – Broadmeadows Basketball Association

Broadmeadows Basketball Association is seeking expressions of interest from suitable individuals to join its independent Tribunal Panel. The Tribunal Panel will consist of several appointed members, including a Chairperson, and will be convened as required, generally on weeknight evenings. The Tribunal is responsible for hearing and determining disciplinary matters arising from competitions and basketball activities conducted under the Association’s jurisdiction, including matters involving players, coaches, team officials, spectators and other persons.

Role Description

Tribunal hearings will generally be conducted by a panel of three members, including a Chairperson. Members are responsible for hearing matters fairly, independently and impartially, and for determining findings and sanctions in accordance with the Basketball Victoria Tribunal By-Laws, Codes of Conduct, and relevant Broadmeadows Basketball Association policies and by-laws.

Key Responsibilities

• Uphold and act in accordance with Basketball Victoria Tribunal By-Laws and Association policies

• Hear and determine disciplinary matters arising from Association competitions and activities

• Consider reports, submissions and witness evidence

• Participate in hearings fairly, efficiently and impartially

• Determine appropriate findings and sanctions

• Declare and avoid any conflicts of interest

• Maintain confidentiality in relation to tribunal matters

Desired Skills and Experience

Applicants will ideally have:

• An interest in basketball and community sport

• Sound judgement and decision-making skills

• Integrity, professionalism and impartiality

• The ability to assess matters fairly and efficiently

• Experience in sport administration, governance, HR, investigations, law enforcement or legal/judiciary settings is desirable but not essential

Remuneration

This is a honorarium-based position with members receiving a payment in recognition of the time and responsibilities associated for the year.

Training

Induction and support will be provided to appointed Tribunal Members in line with the Basketball Victoria Tribunal framework.
